Meet Your Designer
Hi there! I’m Kim.
My sewing journey began more than 50 years ago with my mom who generously offered to teach me how to sew and wound up giving me one of the most satisfying pursuits of my life. From stitching clothing for myself and my husband, to generating textiles for my home, to designing, constructing and often rebuilding costumes for the stage, it’s a gift that has kept on giving.
After my sweet mother-in-law passed away, I turned to sewing to memorialize her and comfort my family, creating pillows, sachets, and ornaments. My own mother further grew my love for handcrafted keepsakes when she asked me to create a bear from her 60-year old wedding dress. And with that labor of love, I knew this next season of my life would be about comfort and celebration, handcrafting legacies for and about folks’ loved ones. Since you’re here, you might just be one.
Why 8 Cardinals?
Eight (8) cardinals were literally part of saving my life! In late Summer of 2018, my husband was away on a trip to visit family across the country. A trip I was originally to take with him, but our aging dog, Yogi Bear, needed care beyond what we wanted to entrust to someone other than ourselves. Things were going well for myself and our 3 pooches. After a couple of days, I wondered if I smelled natural gas in the house, but the odor was inconsistent and faint. Several times throughout the day, I thought I caught a whiff, but I remained uncertain.
In the mid-afternoon, I decided to let the dogs out through a back door attached to our garage. The door faces our back garden. While there, I noticed a male Cardinal land in the crape myrtle tree. He was quickly followed by his mate. I was delighted! I love birds, but especially Cardinals. I was surprised when another Cardinal pair showed up, followed by another, and another! EIGHT Cardinals flitting about and frolicking in our tree. I was AMAZED! I stood there enjoying the antics for at least 20 minutes.
When I returned inside, a wave of gas fumes hit me as soon as I opened the door, and I knew. I called the gas company who investigated (yes, there was an issue), and I waited outside with our dogs until the problem was rectified. I am incredibly grateful those Cardinals were sent my way and am always uplifted and comforted when one appears to let me know The One is near.
